How to Create a URL QR Code

A URL QR code is the simplest and most common type — scan it to open any website. Use it on business cards, packaging, posters, menus or anywhere you want to bridge print and digital.

What is a URL QR Code?

A URL QR code encodes a web address directly in the QR pattern. When scanned, the browser opens automatically to that URL. It works on any smartphone with a camera — no app required on modern phones.

✓ Static URL QR codes are free and need no account. Dynamic URL QR codes (editable after printing) require a free account.

How to Create a URL QR Code

Step 1: Open the generator

Select Website URL from the QR type picker on the homepage.

Step 2: Enter the URL

Paste or type your full URL including https://. Example: https://yourwebsite.com/products. If you omit https://, it will be added automatically.

Step 3: Customize (optional)

Choose QR dot color, background, corner style and optionally add a logo. Use good contrast — dark on light backgrounds scan most reliably.

Step 4: Download

Download PNG (recommended for most uses) or SVG (for large-format printing). No account required.

Static URL vs Dynamic URL

A static URL QR encodes the destination directly. Once printed, the URL cannot be changed. If your website URL changes, you need a new QR code.

A dynamic URL QR (requires free account) points to a short redirect URL. You can change the destination at any time from your dashboard — without reprinting. It also tracks every scan: date, device, country, city.

Best Practices

FAQ

Does a static URL QR code expire?
No. A static URL QR code encodes the URL directly and does not require any server to work. It will continue to scan correctly as long as the destination URL is live.
Can I track who scans my URL QR code?
Not with a static QR code. Create a free account and use a Dynamic URL QR code to track scan counts, devices, countries and cities in real time.
What if the URL I want to encode is very long?
Longer URLs create more complex QR patterns that are harder to scan. Use a URL shortener or a dynamic QR code to keep the encoded data short.
